Nothing ends a Vegas night faster than getting turned away at the club door over what you're wearing — and it happens constantly. Strip nightclubs enforce their dress codes seriously, especially for men and on busy weekends. Here's how to dress so you get in.

The general rule

Think stylish and upscale. Vegas clubs want a polished, fashionable crowd, so err on the side of dressing up rather than down. The dress code is enforced more strictly for men, and it tightens on weekends and at the top megaclubs.

For men

Generally safe:

• A collared shirt or a fashionable button-up or designer tee.
• Dark, clean jeans or dress pants.
• Dress shoes or stylish, clean boots.

Usually refused:

• Athletic wear, jerseys, gym shorts, or tank tops.
• Baggy or heavily ripped jeans.
• Flip-flops, sandals, or beat-up sneakers.
• Hats, especially baseball caps.

For women

Women have more flexibility, but still aim for going-out attire — a dress, a stylish top with nice jeans or a skirt, and heels or fashionable flats. Avoid beachwear, gym clothes, and flip-flops.

Tips to avoid the door

• Check the specific venue — codes vary; the strictest are the marquee megaclubs.
• Skip the sneakers if unsure — some clubs allow clean fashion sneakers, many don't; dress shoes are the safe bet.
• Leave the hat — caps are a common rejection reason.
• Dress for the table — if you have bottle service, you still have to pass the dress code.
